Tom Simenauer
Tom Simenauer was born in New Zealand and was blessed
to have working musicians as parents. He started playing
rock and jazz on a drum kit from the age of 8. During
this time he also played violin and piano for 5 years.
At the age of 19 Tom had a spiritual awakening and
took a new direction in music. Shortly after this time
he also moved to London. He started to learn tabla (North
Indian percussion) at the age of 24 from an Indian master,
Shib Shanka Ray who is based in London.
Since 1994 Tom has also been teaching tabla and leading
/ co-leading many workshops all over Britain, concerning
rhythm and dance.
He has accompanied many ensembles playing a range of
musical styles, including Indian Classical, Folk, World
Fusion, Devotional, dance music, Heavy Rock etc.
He also presently plays for many dance companies in
London including the London Contemporary school of Dance,
Rambert Dance Company, Central School of Ballet &
The Royal Ballet.
Tom is one of the original accompanists for Indigo Moons
Saraswati, having performed with her since 1992
(prior to the name Indigo Moon Theatre). Tom
strongly feels that music and art in general have a
vital role in the world as it is at present, to bring
people closer to themselves and to each other.
